Dope Head Muzik
From earlier this year
Mike Green - Dope Head Muzik Vol. 1
I got put up on this 2008 mixtape a couple days ago via Danny Brown’s twitter feed. Danny Brown, for those who don’t know, is the dopest MC out of Detroit right now whose skills have garnered him love from both hood dudes and hipsters. He’s also the guy that brought to my attention the Green Ova crew. So when he says some shit is good I tend to take his word for it.
Mike Green aka Mike Luke aka Dopehead is a Detroit MC who was in the group Rese’vor Dogs along with Danny Brown and Chips Dinero. Anyone who listens to this mixtape will immediately make the Danny Brown comparisons. Stylistically similar, they both use their variable voices to fit the track’s beat and their subject matter. They also both inject their violent gangster raps and boasts about banging broads with plenty of humor. Basically, if you like Danny Brown (and who doesn’t right now) your going to dig Mike Green (or Mike Luke or Dopehead, I honestly don’t know what his main go-by is).
One thing surprised me is that this tape came out in 2008, which by today’s rap standards is forever ago, but doesn’t seem dated at all. Green’s style is just as adaptable as Brown’s and his humor smartly doesn’t rely on time-sensitive references.
According to Danny Brown, Mike Green also produced the beats on Dope Head Muzik as well. (I would assume with the exception of one track which shouts out Detroit’s Nick Speed for the beat). And despite a slightly low sound quality, the beats all bang and make me excited to hear what’s in store for Dopehead’s next release, which both Green and Danny Brown claim is coming out this year.
So basically check out this tape here if you want more dope Detroit rap.

ZelooperZ - RIP BIN LADEN
Ironic ignorance? Smart dumb raps? Whatever it is, it’s pretty funny and it’s clear dude has a sense of humor. ZeelooperZ is a rapper from Detroit and he just put out his mixtape 'Coon N The Room'. From my first impression he kinda sounds like if Danny Brown made Brick Squad-style trap music. I haven’t checked out the whole thing yet, but it’s got songs titled ‘Ballin’ Like a Buddhist’ and ‘PornYes’ so it’s got to be entertaining. Click the title to d/l.
Lloyd Banks - Cold Corner 2
by Trill Smith
Good God, Banks cooked up some quality. This is worth the download simply of the Prodigy collab. And he never really lets up on here. While I may not be the biggest Banks fan, Cold Corner 2 is definitely worth a listen. It’ll offset any soft simping crap you may have heard recently. It’s okay, I understand it happens.
Standout Tracks: 1,2,3 Grind, The Pulse, Score, Ice Box Pt. 2, No Love, Cold Corner 2 & Come Up
Download (it includes a second part with 13 extra songs)
2008 2-disc mixtape with a bunch of unreleased and unheard joints. Features from Baatin, Obie Trice, Marv Won, & Fatt Father. Damn, dude was an underrated rapper. Click the title to d/l.
